Municipal sewer maintenance crews frequently battle the problem of “blown toilets”—incidents where sewer gas pressure sends waste overflowing into homes. These events not only create costly cleanups but also damage public trust. Blown toilets typically result from air pressure buildup between jetting equipment and debris during the cleaning process, especially when crews fail to clean on the first pass or neglect to open upstream manholes.
To address this, KEG Technologies originally developed a specialized nozzle called the Equalizer. In this model, twelve forward jets at dual angles not only clean but also create an umbrella pattern which blocks the airflow that can create problems with blown toilets. Six rearward jets with the OEM’s high efficiency fluid mechanics provide superior propulsion, cleaning, and debris removal.
Recognizing the need for a lower cost solution, KEG redesigned the concept into a new nozzle called the Toilet Tamer.
The new nozzle retains the performance benefits of the Equalizer but at roughly one-third the cost. It features precisely angled jets that dramatically reduce airflow, virtually eliminating the conditions that lead to blown toilets. Its tapered, football-shaped design ensures smooth passage through misaligned pipes. The nozzle achieves Tier 3 status for high water efficiency—up to 90%—allowing crews to clean longer with fewer refills.
In field tests, a municipality north of Los Angeles reported that the nozzle produced almost no detectable vacuum in lateral lines, a key sign that pressure buildup was effectively suppressed. As a result, the city ordered multiple units to equip its fleet.
KEG Technologies aims to make the Toilet Tamer the go-to tool for eliminating one of the most persistent and frustrating issues in sewer cleaning, and ensure it is readily accessible for operators and fleets anytime, anywhere.
